Should I take Zocor for high cholesterol?

My total cholesterol is 229. I am 32 years old. I do have a family history of high cholesterol. I had it taken a few years ago and it was 290, tried diet and excercise, had it taken again last year, it was 205. I usually never eat grease or fried foods, only on occasion when we go out to eat, but very seldom, I dont eat er, and I walk and swim alot. So this time, my doc called me in Zocor 20 mg. He has not told me anything about it. I have got online and read quite a bit about side effects and so forth. I guess I am just a little uneasy starting something that MAY cause me more health problems. I was hoping someone has some really good advice before I start this medicine so that I would feel better. Oh and the only other medicine I take is Levothyroxine and Celexa. Thanks to everyone who answers, All are much appreciated
