Is judicial independence always a good thing?

Judicial independence is NOT a good thing if the judges being appointed ARE biased, whether they are biased for the President's programs, or whether they are biased for their OWN ideology (i.e., I'm a liberal, so I will always promote by ideology and always come to liberal conclusions).
