Red knee high suede boots? love or loathe?

my sister has bought me a pair of red suede knee high boots from nine west, they have a 4 inch stilleto heel. i cold imagine they would like nice with a black dress / top, however i am worried they are bit santa cluase? i cannot decide if they are high fashion or best left for mr clause to wear.
