Shoplifting case- any advice?

Hi, 5.5 years ago I did something very stupid with two of my girlfriends. we were young and stupid, I guess. We did some shoplifting in one of the malls , we got caught, went to jail...they take our pictures and we went home. later judge gave us some community hours, we did it and pay couple of dollars to the store. I really don't remembered the details, it is really sad memory to me. I just wanna know, if it will affect me for rest of my life. If someone will run criminal record on me now (5.5 years later ), if it's will be there forever. I heard something, like they take it off 5 or 7 years if you never did anything else, which never gonna happened. I know, many of you will try to judge me, but it is very sad experience for me and I cry, when I think abut it. Thanks
